Newport Village is Port Moody's town square, a Bosa built village modelled on a walkable European centre. Low rise condos sit over ground floor shops around the square, with townhouses and two taller towers on Guildford Way behind it.
It is the everyday village of the inlet side. Coffee in the square, the pub on the corner, the recreation complex beside it and city hall, the library and the theatre right across Ioco Road. Most of daily life here happens on foot.
The village was built so the daily run never needs a car. Shops and services ring the square, the recreation complex sits beside it and the civic centre stands across the road. Here is how a normal week actually looks from a Newport Village front door.
The village runs on specialty shops rather than one big store. Kin's Farm Market covers produce, the Little Butcher and Inlet Seafoods handle the protein side, and Casa Del Pane bakes on the strip, with the Newport Village Pharmacy on Newport Drive. The full grocery run is just up Ioco Road, Save-On-Foods and Shoppers Drug Mart at the 221 Ioco plaza, or Thrifty Foods a short walk south in Suter Brook.
Gallagher's has been pouring coffee in the village since 2002. St. James's Well is the neighbourhood pub, Browns Socialhouse covers the casual dinner side, Murasaki does Japanese on Newport Drive, and Vera's, Freshslice and Donair Dude fill in the quick end. The square itself is the patio when the weather turns.
Newport Village Animal Hospital looks after the dogs and cats, with Bone and Biscuit for the pet supplies run. Eagle Ridge Hospital sits just up Guildford Way with its 24 hour emergency. Banking runs through the Suter Brook branches a short walk away, TD and Vancity on Brew Street.
The Port Moody Recreation Complex is right beside the village, two arenas, a curling centre, weight room, walking track and a full drop-in schedule. The village square is the everyday gathering space, and the Shoreline Trail and Rocky Point Park sit about a ten minute walk south.
The Civic Centre stands directly across Ioco Road at 100 Newport Drive, city hall, the public library and the Inlet Theatre in one building, with the Galleria between them. Council meetings, story time and a night at the theatre all happen across the street from home.
Inlet Centre Station is the pocket's SkyTrain stop, a seven to ten minute walk. Buses stop on Ioco Road at Newport Drive, and the West Coast Express runs from Moody Centre Station further west. Ioco Road runs north to the shore neighbourhoods and Guildford Way east into Coquitlam.
Eagle Ridge Elementary
Kindergarten to grade 5, just east of the village in Coquitlam. The catchment elementary for Newport Village addresses, a short walk or drive from the square.
Scott Creek Middle
Grades 6 to 8, in Coquitlam. The catchment middle school for the pocket's addresses.
Gleneagle Secondary
Grades 9 to 12, in Coquitlam. The catchment secondary for Newport Village, so the pocket's kids stay on one school run from kindergarten through graduation.
Catchments are set by School District 43 and they do shift over time. Before you buy on a school, confirm the exact address with the district school locator. And ask Lucas. He reads these catchments the way every parent here does, with his own kid in mind.
Newport Village is a small pocket and its listings turn over quietly. Join the watch list for this pocket and Lucas will flag new Newport Village listings as they land, plus the ones that never make the public sites.
